Slum/Land Lords Evicting Tenants

Over the past few years, Help Stop My Eviction has been hearing the same complaints over and over again.  Most of the complaints are that the landlords say they are going to fix certain items in the home or apartment that makes the unit uninhabitable.  These circumstances include, no heat, rodents, excessive damages such as holes in the walls or floor, etc. Most tenants do not pay rent as an option to attempt to get the landlord to repair the issues.  This in most circumstances does not work.

The landlord will then issue you a 3 day notice and then an unlawful detainer.  You have only 5 days to answer the unlawful detainer and weekends do count. If you do not answer the unlawful detainer within 5 days, you will default your case and a judgement will be entered.  The courts are partial to the landlords, so if you do answer the  unlawful detainer, there is a 95% chance you will lose. Normally, within 1 or 2 days the Sheriff will post the lockout notice on your door.  You will have 5 days to move out or the Sheriff will remove you on the lockout date.
